We want kids out there to know that
even little kids can make a big difference
All it took in this case was 2 kids and a dream....

In 2011, two kids (a sister and a brother, then ages 6 and 8)
had a dream about holding a chess tournament to raise money for charity

This was all their idea

They helped with the planning.
They picked the charity.

This is their tournament...and now it is your tournament, too.

About Us

Chess 4 Charity Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded by two kids in Northern Virginia. It started when co-founders Gabby & Garrett came up with the idea to combine Garrett's passion for chess and Gabby's passion for helping others, by holding a chess tournament to raise money for charity.  It is now a semi-annual event.  We've held 5 events so far (and counting) attended by hundreds of people, and we have raised over $40,000 for charities (so far - and counting). We are a registered non-profit 501c3 tax free charitable corporation (Chess 4 Charity, Inc.)

For our first Chess 4 Charity event, we set a goal of $1,000 to raise for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater DC.  We raised over $2,000, double our goal.  For our second event, held soon after Hurricane Sandy, we set a goal of $4,000 and raised over $5,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief.  For our third event, we set a rather ambitious goal of raising $10,000 for Children's Hospitals Miracle Network Torch Relay. And we beat that goal too!!  For the third event, we formally incorporated and obtained 501c3 status. Every year, we select a charity to be the beneficiary of our efforts.
